1.【址:a g 9 559⒐ v i p】1She suddenly felt so tired--perhaps through want of food--that she sat down on the edge of the bed quite weakly.
2."She is actually waiting there for us!" she said. "Let us go in to her."
3."Me hear it?" she cried. "Like as if I was a pupil, miss! All about the Prince--and the little white Mer-babies swimming about laughing-- with stars in their hair?"
4."WE couldn't do it," said Sara, seriously. "You see, it's a kind of magic."
5."You see," said Sara, "that is for his wife and children. He is very nice. He only eats the little bits. After he goes back I can always hear his family squeaking for joy. There are three kinds of squeaks. One kind is the children's, and one is Mrs. Melchisedec's, and one is Melchisedec's own."
6."Some people are afraid of them," said Sara. "I was at first-- but I am not now."

1."Oh, Sara!" cried Lottie. "I should like to live here!"
2."Ermengarde!" cried Sara. She was so startled that she was almost frightened. "You will get into trouble."
3."I AM different," she explained, "though not in the way you think. Miss Minchin does not want me to talk to the girls. Most of them don't want to talk to me. I thought--perhaps--you didn't. So I tried to keep out of your way."
4.He did come back, and even brought a friend, and the friend went away and brought a relative, and among them they made a hearty meal over which they twittered and chattered and exclaimed, stopping every now and then to put their heads on one side and examine Lottie and Sara. Lottie was so delighted that she quite forgot her first shocked impression of the attic. In fact, when she was lifted down from the table and returned to earthly things, as it were, Sara was able to point out to her many beauties in the room which she herself would not have suspected the existence of.
5.Mr. Carrisford sat and bit his nails as he looked into the glowing bed of coals in the grate.
6.Becky lost her breath again.

1."Lost every penny. That young man had too much money. The dear friend was mad on the subject of the diamond mine. He put all his own money into it, and all Captain Crewe's. Then the dear friend ran away-- Captain Crewe was already stricken with fever when the news came. The shock was too much for him. He died delirious, raving about his little girl--and didn't leave a penny."
2."I am growing quite fond of him," she said to Ermengarde; "I should not like him to be disturbed. I have adopted him for a friend. You can do that with people you never speak to at all. You can just watch them, and think about them and be sorry for them, until they seem almost like relations. I'm quite anxious sometimes when I see the doctor call twice a day."
3."I don't like it, papa," she said. "But then I dare say soldiers-- even brave ones--don't really LIKE going into bat{tle}."
4."Put down your doll," said Miss Minchin. "What do you mean by bringing her here?"
5. "Oh, papa," she whispered, "what a long time it seems since I was your `Little Missus'!"
6."I am not in the least anxious about her education," Captain Crewe said, with his gay laugh, as he held Sara's hand and patted it. "The difficulty will be to keep her from learning too fast and too much. She is always sitting with her little nose burrowing into books. She doesn't read them, Miss Minchin; she gobbles them up as if she were a little wolf instead of a little girl. She is always starving for new books to gobble, and she wants grown-up books--great, big, fat ones--French and German as well as English--history and biography and poets, and all sorts of things. Drag her away from her books when she reads too much. Make her ride her pony in the Row or go out and buy a new doll. She ought to play more with dolls."

应用

1.Ermengarde looked from her to the doll and back again.
2.Miss Minchin had expected to see in Sara, when she appeared in the schoolroom, very much what Lavinia had expected to see. Sara had always been an annoying puzzle to her, because severity never made her cry or look frightened. When she was scolded she stood still and listened politely with a grave face; when she was punished she performed her extra tasks or went without her meals, making no complaint or outward sign of rebellion. The very fact that she never made an impudent answer seemed to Miss Minchin a kind of impudence in itself. But after yesterday's deprivation of meals, the violent scene of last night, the prospect of hunger today, she must surely have broken down. It would be strange indeed if she did not come downstairs with pale cheeks and red eyes and an unhappy, humbled face.
3.The Magic
4、"Good God! Yes," he said. "I was driven mad with dread and horror. I had not slept for weeks. The night I staggered out of my house all the air seemed full of hideous things mocking and mouthing at me."
5、The first time Sara took her in charge was one morning when, on passing a sitting room, she heard both Miss Minchin and Miss Amelia trying to suppress the angry wails of some child who, evidently, refused to be silenced. She refused so strenuously indeed that Miss Minchin was obliged to almost shout--in a stately and severe manner-- to make herself heard.

It was very like the scene in the schoolroom. There was no pertness in Sara's manner. It was only sad and quiet.

"Miss Amelia!" she said to herself "How CAN it be!"

{"I don't know, I'm sure; and I don't care if it's something more about that everlasting Sara."

    "I can move as if my feet were of velvet," Ram Dass replied; "and children sleep soundly--even the unhappy ones. I could have entered this room in the night many times, and without causing her to turn upon her pillow. If the other bearer passes to me the things through the window, I can do all and she will not stir. When she awakens she will think a magician has been here."}

"It does not--melt away," she panted. "Oh, I never had such a dream before." She scarcely dared to stir; but at last she pushed the bedclothes aside, and put her feet on the floor with a rapturous smile.

"Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!" Lottle howled tempestuously. "Haven't--got--any--mam--ma-a!"

Miss Minchin started forward. She looked as if she was going to open the door and rush out of the room to stop the festivities going on joyfully and rather noisily that moment over the refreshments.

{"Not many would," said the woman, looking puzzled and interested and good-natured all at once.

  • 戈尔基 07-31

"What were you thinking?" demanded Miss Minchin.
